Still no answers from SD57 trustees a month after Superintendent removed

PRINCE GEORGE – Despite the controversy a move to remove School District 57’s Superintendent created in early March, there are still no answers from those who made the decision.

Tracy Loffer, Vice-President of the BC School Trustees Association said trustees need to find an important balance between overseeing a board and being too hands-on in operations.

“Most people decide to run for office because they are you know, they’re interested in students and they’re interested in serving and representing their communities,” said Loffler. “Some of the specific roles, around being a school trustee is recognizing your role in oversight versus getting involved in operations and that requires a trustee to be informed, to be prepared and to attend and participate in meetings.”

Loffler added those duties also include working with partner groups and stakeholders.

Loffler said trustees have defined roles and responsibilities including the board chairperson who is the designated spokesperson, with a vice-chair as an alternate.

CKPG News reached out to Rachael Weber for a response to the comments made by Loffler but an interview was declined.

“At this time the board has nothing further to add,” said Weber via email.

In addition, Secretary-Treasurer Darleen Patterson has gone on “medical leave” from SD57.

Back in January, BC’s Education Minister Rachna Singh called SD57 one of her top priorities, insisting she would visit in the coming weeks and days. Now three months later, the Minister has not visited and has not made any major changes.

CKPG News has reached out to Singh multiple times to request an interview but none of those request have been fulfilled.
