PRINCE GEORGE– Billet families are an essential part of any sports organization. Someone to help provide a place for players to stay while pursuing their academic and sports career. And it’s no different with the Prince George Kodiaks.

“We have 35 to 40 players coming from across the country. As far as Prince Edward Island. We really are stretching across the country in terms of our reach as a program and players are wanting to come here and play and have that opportunity to develop. So we need families.” – Jamie Borem, Head Coach, Prince George Kodiaks

Head Coach Jamie Borem has been around football his whole life; even playing in the CFL, he lived with a billet family. To this day he’s still in contact with him.

“Even when I was playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, my first place I stayed there was a billet family. I still call her Mama Pat and every time I’m there, I go visit and we probably talk four or five times a year just on birthdays and Christmas. Billets become not just a place where someone stays, billets become a family.” – Jamie Borem, Head Coach, Prince George Kodiaks

Jennifer Erickson is the mother of Jerome Erickson, a Wide Reciever for the Kodiaks. She helped billet Quarterback Sam Sabine last year and says it was an amazing experience.

“It was just great to provide an opportunity for someone who was away from home. As a mother myself, I would hope my son had the same experience when he left town for the first time. But it was such a rewarding experience for us. Sam came and stayed with us throughout the summer and into the start of the season and just became another member of our family.” – Jennifer Erickson, Billet Mother in Kodiaks inaugural season

As for the organization they have already seen plenty of support from the community of Prince George. Billeting a player from out of town is a perfect opportunity to show how great BC is and how great of a community Prince George is.

“Prince George, I think, is a wonderful community. We see that with their volunteer efforts in support of the Kokiaks. This is just one of their opportunity to showcase to not only other British Columbians, but the rest of the country, really, what a great community Prince George is and what great people we have living here” –Scott Stoughton, Vice President, Board of Directors
