Phase 1 of Pidherny Wildfire Risk Reduction Project complete
PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Wildfire Centre is in the heart of the largest forest zone in the province. Staff at the centre, oversee 7 different wildfire zones, and every eco-region from the Yukon Border, through the interior plateaus, and the mountainous zones between BC and Alberta
With responsibility over such a vast region, telecommunications are a vital part of wildfire prevention in the North. Safeguarding those assets, the reason behind the multiyear wildfire risk reduction treatment currently underway at Pidherny trail system.
Phase 1 of the project has just been complete, which saw the canopy overhead thinned out, and the removal of deadwood from the trailway. Phase 2 is about to begin, which will see smaller work crews working on the removal of brush and refuse from forest floor. Everything removed from the Pidherny trailway as part of the treatment project, will be shipped off to local power generations plants, and what’s not useable, will get reused as mulch.
