PRINCE GEORGE – A BC Housing-owned building on Strathcona Avenue in Prince George’s remains empty months after it was renovated.

CKPG News was made aware of the situation by the last-standing tenant who feared he would be ‘renovicted’ from his home for the last seven years.

After William’s story aired questioning the empty units, BC Housing confirmed the site was being transitioned into a new housing model.

“BC Housing has been renovating the site and will repurpose a new program with the Indigenous community in partnership with multiple local non-profit organizations,” said a spokesperson for the public corporation.

After asking if William would be allowed to stay following this transition, there was good news to share.

“We can confirm that one resident remains at 1585 Strathcona Ave. and is not at any risk of being displaced,” said a spokesperson.

The last-standing tenant was pleased to hear the news but still believes those managing the site will convince him to leave in the long run.

Peter Milobar, BC’s Shadow Minister for Finance wonders how many other buildings in BC are in similar states to this one in Prince George, sitting empty. Milobar called on the province to release the findings of a forensic audit on BC Housing that was completed weeks ago.
