PRINCE GEORGE — Twenty-three motorists were ticketed in an RCMP speeding blitz Monday (April 24).

Prince George RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Cooper says speed enforcement took place along Foothills Boulevard near Cascade Avenue where City of Prince George work crews were in the area conducting sidewalk and intersection improvements.

She says those drivers were traveling at 25 km/h or more over the posted speed limit.

“Prince George RCMP wants to remind drivers to slow down and move over when approaching roadside workers and vehicles stopped on our roads,” says Cooper.

“The Slow Down and Move Over legislation includes not only emergency vehicles, but maintenance workers, land surveyors, animal control workers and garbage collectors.”

Motorists must slow their speed to:

  • 70km/h when in an 80km/h or over zone
  • 40km/h when in an under 80km/h zone

“If traveling on a multi-lane road, when safe to do so drivers must also move into another lane to pass when passing stopped vehicles with a flashing light. Failing to adjust your speed or move over may result in a $173 traffic violation ticket and three points on your driver’s license,” adds Cooper.

RCMP say speed enforcement will continue throughout the City during the spring and summer months.
