PRINCE GEORGE — On Saturday, the newly elected council of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation were sworn in at the House of Ancestors, marking the beginning of a new term.

The new council of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation was sworn in on Saturday at the House of Ancestors marking the start of a new 2 year term for council and while the position and title of chief and council is a great honour, they are also just Lheidli T’enneh members.

One of the newly elected members, is Councillor John West, who also happens to be the youngest member on council.

“It’s nice to be one of the younger ones to step up and I hope this will give the other youth in our community the power to follow whatever they want to do. Everything that inspires them.” – Councillor John West, Lheidli T’enneh First Nation

The election on April 11th and the swearing in ceremony are both historic occasions for the Lheidli T’enneh. Chief Dolleen Logan also mentioned how heartwarming it was to see so many from the community come out to swearing in and show their support for the Lheidli T’enneh.

The involvement in April elections was one of the highest the nation has ever seen, with 55% percent eligible voters casting a ballot.

“And I want to thank each and every one of you for putting in because your voice was heard. This is what we mean about community involvement. This is a start.” – Chief Dolleen Logan, Lheidli T’enneh First Nation

The Lheidli T’enneh First Nation is growing now with 725 members, and the number one priority for the council is serving members to best of their abilities.
