PRINCE GEORGE — Protein is something that is found throughout our bodies and we learn more about the essential building block in this week’s to your health.

Protein is found throughout our bodies, in muscle, bone, skin, hair and virtually every other body part or tissue and often times we don’t get enough protein in our daily diet.

“People don’t realize how dose they are. Like children only need half their body weight in protein, but adults need pretty much no less than their body weight. So a lot of people are, you know, maybe running between 30 to 90 grams a day, which isn’t even close to what their body needs.” – Cara Roberts, Owner, Active Body Nutrition

With protein being an essential macronutrient, there are many benefits that we gain from it.

“There’s a few very beneficial points to having protein. First and foremost, it’s a little bit harder for your body to metabolize protein, which means that your metabolism strengthens as you are burning it out of your system.” – Cara Roberts, Owner, Active Body Nutrition

Meat is one key source of protein that you may have in your daily diet.

“Meat is very important. You should be eating it a few times a day. But of course, we have a lot of people who don’t eat meat, so they have to make sure that they can fill the gaps with, you know, combining the right amino acids from a vegetarian diet. And then, of course, we can do powders as well, which is great because you’re going to have lower calorie and higher protein content in there.” – Cara Roberts, Owner, Active Body Nutrition

Protein powders can also help increase your protein intake on a daily basis and one of the most common types of protein powders, is whey isolates.

“Whey isolates are the ones that I typically will recommend first, depending on, you know, once we’ve spoken with the customer and know what their body needs are. They take whey, which is derived from dairy, and they take it one step further in the processing or denature it to the point that they get out most, if not all, of the sugars, fats and carbs.” – Cara Roberts, Owner, Active Body Nutrition
