UPDATE: Vandalism to blame for Friday night’s gas leak in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE —Update: Prince George RCMP are blaming vandalism on the reason for Friday night’s gas leak.

Police say there was some vandalism done to the copper pipes which is why the leak started.

“It is an unoccupied building so we were not able to get any information on how/when the vandalism occurred. Emergency services evacuated the nearby buildings and shut the highway down for approximately three hours before reopening,” says Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

Earlier: Motorists beware.

RCMP say a gas leak has closed down Highway 97 north between 5th and 10th avenues. They’ve also closed Johnson Street behind the Tim Hortons on Central.
