PRINCE GEORGE — There are currently 44 active wildfires in the Prince George Fire Centre, including three wildfires of note.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says that includes Teare Creek near McBride which has grown to 1100 hectares but is being held.

“Local weather stations recorded nearly 20mm of precipitation in the past 24 hours which has helped suppression efforts significantly. Crews remain on site and continue to conduct mop-up operations and danger tree assessing and falling in active wildfire areas. The evacuation order and alert issued by the Regional District of Fraser Fort George has been rescinded,” says the BC Wildfire Service.

“The Evacuation order and alert issued by the Village of McBride has also been rescinded. The public is reminded the Teare Creek Wildfire is still an active wildfire and a BCWS worksite and for continued safe and effect operations the public must stay clear of active wildfire operations.”

The Boundary Lake wildfire in the peace is 5,900 hectares and experiencing continued growth.

“Crews worked late into the night on Saturday securing areas of concern on the north and south flanks, connecting fire guard to existing roads. Crews will continue to work in the southwest corner in steep, challenging terrain,” says the BCWS.

“The Peace River Regional District has reduced the size of the Evacuation Order and Alert for properties in the Boundary/Goodlow area. Residents in the area are encouraged to closely monitor the situation and check the Peace River Regional District website for updates.”

Finally, the Red Creek wildfire is approximately 2,800 hectares and experienced significant growth over the weekend.

“A combination of initial attack crews, unit crews, helicopters, structure protection specialists, heavy equipment and water tenders are on scene. Crews focused their efforts on reinforcing the east flank, taking advantage of favourable east/southeast winds to burn out pockets of fuel between the fire and the guard,” says the BCWS.

“Crews worked from north to south, securing and reinforcing the east flank in anticipation of a wind switch to westerly winds later Sunday evening. The Peace River Regional District has issued an Evacuation Order and Alert for the Red Creek and Lower Cache areas. Residents in the area are encouraged to closely monitor the situation and check the Peace River Regional District website for updates.”
