May 17, 2023 | 12:45 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – The status of the Teare Creek wildfire (G30210) located near the boundaries of the community of McBride has been changed to being held by the BC Wildfire Service.

The term signifies the wildfire is not expected to grow any further under current conditions,.

According to the BCWS, all resources will be pulled off of the incident as of 6 pm on May 17. There may however still be small hot spots that continue to show signs of smoke going forward.

Previously drones equipped with infrared cameras were used over the fire to detect remaining hot-spots within the perimeter. Crews continued to action these hot-spots. Further danger tree assessment and falling led to detection of additional hot-spots in challenging deciduous tree stands in areas of the fire which have been since actioned by crews.

The Area Restriction Order will remain in effect for the Teare Creek wildfire. A description and map of the geographic boundaries of the restricted area is available on the BC Wildfire Service website. Public interference on active fire worksites has a direct impact on the effectiveness of fire suppression activities and pose safety risks both to the public and to responders who are working to contain these fires.

In order for wildfire suppression activities to continue safely and effectively, the public must stay out of active fire areas. Government officials, including firefighters, engaged in fire control have the authority under the Wildfire Act and the Wildfire Regulation to order all people to leave active fire areas.

Fire activity and onsite conditions can change rapidly, especially if hot and dry conditions continue. Residents in the vicinity are encouraged to keep up-to-date on the current wildfire situation.
