Weather changes help to protect Tumbler Ridge from raging wildfire

TUMBLER RIDGE — Wildfire crews in B-C’s northeast are taking advantage of favourable weather conditions to battle a massive blaze near Tumbler Ridge.

Residents of the town of 24-hundred people were ordered to evacuate Thursday as the wildfire approached within five kilometres of Tumbler Ridge.

Forrest Tower, a fire information officer with B-C Wildfire Service, says shifting winds and cooling temperatures are giving firefighters a chance to create stronger fire protection lines.

He says despite the improving conditions, it’s still too early to lift the evacuation order.
