PRINCE GEORGE — The School District 57 Board of Education will have two new faces around the table after Sarah Holland and Shar McCrory were elected over the weekend.

Holland and McCrory both won by sizeable margins Saturday night, Holland had the most votes with 1,590 with McCrory finishing second with 1,384 votes.

Milton Mahoney finished a distant third with 672 votes. The by-election was prompted by the resignations of ex-trustees Betty Bekkering and Gillian Burnett earlier this year.

“I heard was that there needs to be more transparency and there needs to be more support for our staff and teachers and students on all levels,” said McCrory. “So I’m hoping that we can work together to make those things better.”

Holland agreed more collaboration was needed between all parties, knowing full well she said not all sides would agree on everything. The longtime PAC member added she believes there can be greater respect shared between partner groups and the board.

The first meeting with this board of education will happen next Tuesday, June 27 when Holland and McCrory are expected to be sworn in before passing a balanced budget.
