Local golfer back on the course after horrific injury

PRINCE GEORGE — Getting back onto the golf course wasn’t an easy journey for Hayden Prive after he was struck in the side of the head by a golf ball back in July 2022.

The ball broke the young golfer’s orbital bone and forced him into an emergency surgery ultimately ending his season in the process. It happened when Prive was sitting in a golf cart about 40 yards in front of his golfing buddy no expecting a ball to end up anywhere near him.

“I just remember sitting at the steering wheel, I zoned right out, normally I’m paying quite a bit of attention, but for whatever reason, my attention span just went away and next thing I know, I’m just I’m staring down hole 10 and I just feel [my head] falling down and everything going, blacking out,” said Prive. “I didn’t get knocked out, I remember just it ringing really loud”

The timing was the worst part of the entire incident agreed Prive who was bound for the Canadian Amateur Golf Championship after a successful BC Amateur Championship days earlier.

As the saying goes golf is a mental game, and it proved to be true for Prive as he battled to get back onto the course in championship form.

Prive just wrapped up his first full season with the University of the Fraser Valley golf team down in Abbotsford.

The PG Product hopes he can carry some extra motivation when he takes to the links for the BCAM this summer, eager to get back to qualifying for the national stage.
