An across the board rise in jobless numbers

PRINCE GEORGE- Prince George saw its unemployment rate climb once again to 8.8 per cent last month from 7.9 per cent in May and 4.5 per cent in June of 2022. That translates to roughly 6,000 fewer people employed year over year, with wholesale and retail services down once again .

B.C.’s overall unemployment rate climbed to 5.6 per cent last month, from 5.0 per cent in May, while the national unemployment rate cinched up to 5.4 per cent last month, from 5.2 per cent in May.

The national rate climbed to the highest point in more than a year as more people started looking for work. According to Statistics Canada, the economy added 60,000 jobs last month and that most of the jobs were full-time.
