Former CKPG GM and Prince George city councillor passes away

PRINCE GEORGE — Broadcaster Gord Leighton has passed away.

Gord was a long-time general manager at CKPG and a former Prince George city councillor from 1999-2002.

Gord left Prince George for the Okanagan in 2003 and was behind the push for a community radio station in Vernon.

He was also a former president of the BC Association of Broadcasters for two terms and was named Broadcaster of the Year in 1997. In addition to that, Gord was named Businessperson of the Year by the Prince George Chamber of Commerce in 1995 and was named Rotarian of the Year and a Paul Harris Fellow in 1989.

Gord was recently diagnosed with cancer and passed away Tuesday at a hospice in Vernon. He was 78-years-old.
