NAIG Recap: Local wrestlers ready to conquer more after solid performance at first-ever games

PRINCE GEORGE — It was late June when wrestlers Jacob Littler and Hunter McCarthy were in the process of prepping for the North American Indigenous Game. Now after a solid performance in Halifax, they return to Prince George with brand-new knowledge and experience of the sport.

Hunter McCarthy went to the games with one goal. To win. Although he didn’t quite accomplish that, he did end up finishing fifth out of twelve wrestlers all while being the youngest wrestler in his category. McCarthy admits he’s familiar with the feeling after participating in so many tournaments wrestling older competitors.

Overall it was a great experience for Hunter. Getting to show off his skills at the highest level while getting the motivation to build on his performance for next year.

Jacob Littler saw himself compete in the Bronze Medal tilt after winning all his Round Robin matches. Although it wasn’t the result he wanted, he still was proud to come fourth of fourteen in his weight class.

Now Jacob looks to continue his journey as a wrestler with the goal of competing in more high-level events like the North American Indigenous Games.
