PRINCE GEORGE — Whether it is within your own province or all the way across the country, the North American Indigenous Games is a unique opportunity for athletes from all over to make new friendships. For Corina McClure and Colby Jefferies, meeting, so many new people was one of many highlights of the games for the pair that was representing Team BC for U19 softball.

For Corina and her teammates, they put in a great performance, finishing 3rd in round-robin play with a record of three wins and one loss. However, when the first game started, it took a bit of time to adjust and get the jitters out before the team really got going.

After settling down, the girls saw themselves playing for a medal. Something Corina envisioned from the very beginning of the tournament. Even though the game got cancelled due to poor weather, both teams shared the Bronze Medal, which was still an incredible accomplishment.

Colby and his teammates also had success on the softball field. Team BC finished atop the standings and ultimately headed to the gold medal game. Once again, the game was cancelled due to the weather, but it resulted in Colby and his three teammates from Prince George being crowned champions.

And just like every other athlete who attended the North American Indigenous Games, it was an unforgettable time for both athletes in Halifax.
