CNIB launches mobile hub

Sep 14, 2023 | 2:04 PM

PRINCE GEORGE — Today, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind or CNIB, unveiled their mobile hub. It is a new program delivery model where CNIB visits communities to deliver in-person programming at no cost.

“At CNIB we go into different communities specially when we don’t have a big presence and we bring all our programs and services with us because we want to share as much information with our community, with of course, our community with sight loss, but also the loved ones and anyone that is part of this journey with us.” – Ana Booth, Manager of Programs and Operations for BC/Yukon, CNIB

At the mobile hub, folks can participate in recreational and social activities, hands-on technology training, and more. The programs are designed to educate, entertain and engage community members who are blind or partially sighted as well as their families, friends and caregivers.

I also connect with community partners, municipalities and different organization to kind of educate them in how they would get to be more friendly to people with a loss, like, you know, exactly how being accessible format or materials, how they could guide people properly.

The CNIB also launched its strategic plan today, called “The Way Forward”, which will set a strategic vision and guide for the next five years. The plan includes feedback from thousands of Canadians coast to coast dealing with sight loss.

The strategic plan outlines three priorities based on feedback, including:

  • public respect and investing in inclusion,
  • safe and accessible transportation options and
  • better support for children who are blind, low vision or Deafblind.
