Heritage School hosts Cops for Cancer send-off for 7-day fundraiser in support childhood cancer research

PRINCE GEORGE – Seven days of fundraising money for childhood cancer research and a national support system for families affected by childhood cancer kicked off today. Heritage School sent off 11 bikers for the Cops for Cancer tour de North for their 7-day journey to Prince Rupert.

The tour is called Cops for Cancer, but in reality, there are lots of first responders involved.

“We have a lot of different people up here as well. We have paramedics, we have firefighters, we have corrections officers, and they all help out.”

This event has been around for 22 years now, and it all started with 2 people.

“The cancer movement started with one Edmonton cop and one child going through a cancer journey. And almost 30 years later, we’ve now raised 52 million across Canada, thanks to Cops for Cancer.”

Now that the bikers have started the tour, people support them in a couple of different ways.

“We’re going to be on our way to Prince Rupert over the next seven days, so we hope people from all the communities come out and cheer us on. It’s also a fundraiser and we’re trying to raise money to make a difference and fund pediatric cancer research and Camp Goodtime.
