PRINCE GEORGE — The first ever AimHi walkathon took place Friday, September 29, serving as a kickoff for Community Living Month, and organizers hope that it can become an annual event in Prince George.

AimHi Prince George Association for Community Living provides opportunities and supports to people who have special needs and their families. From 9:30 to 12:30 on Friday, their first ever walkathon took place, and the event is designed to provide enriching opportunities for their supported individuals and their families.

The walkathon goes beyond physical activity, focusing on fostering connections and a stronger sense of community. It also serves as a kickoff to Community Living Month, which takes place in October. Friday’s walkathon allowed folks to take three different routes of varying lengths.

Organizers at AimHi estimate that around 150 participated and they also hope that the success from this year’s walkathon will permeate for future years ahead. An open house also took place with information booths from various different community organizations and providers.

“It’s wonderful to see that so many service providers are here and different agencies are here participating in this community event. It’s just amazing to see how many departments are involved in this and all came together participating. And it’s teamwork.” – Hanna Ogirala, AimHi
