‘Not many players get to live out the dream of being a home town guy,’ says Spruce Kings’ Scott Cousins, as home opener gets underway
PRINCE GEORGE – Playing your favourite sport for a living is a luxury dream for lots of athletes and adding on the ability to play in front of a home town crowd is just the cherry on top. For the Prince George Spruce Kings’, Scott Cousins, it’s been a reality for a year now as he enters into his second season with the team.
One of the things Scott said was that his parents got him into the sport at the age of four, but after investigating a little further, it couldn’t have been further from the truth.
“We didn’t decide. Actually, he did. He was not quite two actually, and he came out of his playroom with like some little Fisher-Price busses, and he was putting them on and he was trying to skate these little busses on his feet and he’d grab like spatulas or flippers from like the kitchen cupboard drawer. He would just go around hitting anything that looked like a ball or a disk, and he would play hockey.”
