CNC’s automotive class is looking to fix your car

PRINCE GEORGE—Has your “check engine” light given you a scare just in time for Halloween? CNC’s Automotive Service Technicians (AST) program can help.

From October 19 to 25, the program is accepting gas or hybrid vehicles from the Prince George community for students to diagnose and possibly repair.

Vehicles cannot be electric only and must also meet one or more of

the following criteria:

  • Runs poorly
  • Check engine lamp on
  • Difficulty starting
  • Stalling

This program will give the next generation of technicians a chance to hone their skills, while giving you a great price.

AST 3 students are in their final year of the program, and this is when they can put all their knowledge together and do some real-world diagnosis work. These are the same people who’ll be caring for your cars in local shops in just a few months.

Ken Rowell, program instructor

Vehicles will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis until the ten spots are filled. However, while there is a cap on this specific opportunity, the department is regularly looking for more vehicles that their students can diagnose and repair.

Most repairs will be completed within the allotted class time, more complex repairs can take time, as this is a school program and not an established auto service shop. Vehicle owners are responsible for any parts costs required for the repair.
