Protest calling for ceasefire in Gaza held outside of MP Doherty’s office

PRINCE GEORGE — Protesters conducted a sit-in in front of Conservative MP Todd Doherty’s office this morning, calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The hope for the group was to be able to express their message inside of the office, but that did not happen.

The war in Gaza started October 7th after Hamas militants carried out an attack that left more than 14-hundred people dead in Israel — most of whom were civilians. The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry is reporting the Palestinian death toll has surpassed 10-thousand people.

“This was a peaceful protest that was organized, demanding a cease fire and demanding a conversation with our representatives who have openly said that they stand with Israel. We wondering if they stand with the death of over 4000 children and over 10,000 civilians of Gaza.” – Mariah Curry

A petition sponsored by a Quebec NDP MP calling for an immediate ceasefire has garnered over 150,000 signatures, but as of Monday, November 4, the federal government has not called for a ceasefire.

For those gathered, they say they do not support the government’s view of the conflict, and the views of the opposition.

“We do not support this. We will not be represented by these people saying that we do not want a cease fire. That is all we want. That’s all we’re asking for.” – Mariah Curry

The figures of those killed, mark a grim milestone in what has quickly become the deadliest round of Israeli-Palestinian violence since Israel’s establishment 75 years ago.
