PRINCE GEORGE — In August, we reported on the Angus Project which is a proposed proppant mine from Vitreo Minerals Ltd., located 10 kilometers east of Bear Lake, and Tuesday, Vitreo gave an update on the status of the project.

Proppant is often called frac sand and is used in fracking during crude oil and natural gas extraction. These videos show what a proppant mine operation looks like. The environmental assessment process is the next step for Vitreo.

“We’ll be working most of 2024 all the way through that environmental assessment process, hoping to get certificates and permits issued by the end of 2025. So it’s quite a lengthy process to work our way through.” – Scott Broughton, President and CEO, Vitreo Minerals Ltd.

Vitreo says that the demand for proppant will secure the long term viability of the mine.

“LNG is about to kick off in 2025, the demand for our products will be going on for a long, long time. This could be a multi-generational mining opportunity. Having a local opportunity like this, diversifying the economy and reducing the carbon footprint of the whole process, I think is a big win.” – Scott Broughton, President and CEO, Vitreo Minerals Ltd.

The projects has a $300 million dollar capital cost and will be hiring and engaging about 150 people during construction and another 150 for operations. 2026 is when Vitreo says they will be in a position to make an investment decision to build a mine.
