PRINCE GEORGE – The season may be in full swing, but one Spruce Kings player is taking off for a rare opportunity. Kazumo Sasaki is headed to play with Japan for the IIHF U20 Division 1 World Championship.

“Is pretty awesome. This is the first time the team of Japan got bumped up to that league and it’s always honour to represent my country for sure, and I’m pretty excited about it.”

Even though he’s leaving his team for a month, Spruce Kings Head Coach Alex Evin says, it’s all for the love of sport.

“I think that’s obviously a special opportunity for Kaz. And you know, if we’re going to lose a player, this is for a really good reason. We fully support him going to play for his country. It’s probably a once-in-a-lifetime or a small window of opportunity he’ll have to do that, and I’m sure he’s going to do great.”

Number 26 is set to head over to Norway on November 30.
