Explosion and fire at a home in College Heights

PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George Fire Rescue is responding this hour to an explosion and fire at a home in College Heights.

Witnesses tell CKPG News that the explosion occurred just before 7 p.m. (Dec.12) at a home on the 8000 block of St. John Crescent. Damages are estimated at $500,000.

There is no word on the cause, but witnesses say the explosion led to a fire that had the home fully engulfed in flames.

Crews are still on the scene putting out hotspots, though the home is destroyed. Prince George Fire Rescue Chief Cliff Warner says a medical team is assessing the homeowner.

The explosion could be heard for blocks.
