Salvation Army needs big boost to reach fundraising goal
PRINCE GEORGE – The Salvation Army’s annual kettle campaign has 11 days left, and while the fundraising has surpassed $100 000 there is still a lot of work to be done to hit its goal of $180 000.
The Salvation Army’s Community Ministries Director Roy Law says he is hopeful the goal will be reached, as this is its only fundraising campaign all year and many of its services rely on this funding. While things have picked up, he added the Salvation Army has experienced a slower start than usual, which could be due to several factors.
“Things are tougher for everybody, a little tighter (cost-wise), I should say, and that might be contributing to it. Some of it will be that the Christmas spirit doesn’t usually kick in until we get closer to it,” Law said.
Another big factor has been a lack of volunteers. While Law is incredibly grateful to all the volunteers who continue to work hard to help the Salvation Army, he added keeping the volunteer numbers high has been a challenge.
