PRINCE GEORGE— Senior’s living in Prince George will have a present under their tree to look forward to thanks to the help of Burger King and the community of Prince George.

“It was so much fun. We raised $3300 more than that,” says Gurrinder Kaur, general manager at Burger King. “It went really good. We were so excited and we did a really good job. We had a free small fries all day long and face painting and lots of kids were here and all the staffers had face painting.”

Last Friday, the restaurant held their fourth annual ‘Whopper’s for Seniors’ where people could purchase a Whopper and get free fries with $1.00 from each Whopper going to the Simon Fraser Lodge care facility. The fundraiser managed to raise over $3000. Items such as toiletries, socks, slippers, mittens, magazines, books, chocolates and individual games like crosswords puzzles and Suduko are purchased and distributed to the senior residents.

“It’s beyond words, we’re eternally grateful. All the proceeds will go towards seniors, little gift bags, toiletries, games for those that don’t have family that come in or don’t have a lot of visitors, they’ll get a little something extra,” says Cecelia Osmond, Recreation Coordinator for YMCA B.C., at Simon Fraser Lodge.

The annual fundraiser was created during the pandemic when senior citizens at the lodge were completely isolated unable to have visitors or leave the care facility. Many seniors do not have family or friends who visit them, so these little gifts mean a great deal to them. The seniors were also treated to free Whoppers which were delivered to the home.
