PRINCE GEORGE — The holidays are just around the corner which means that folks will be travelling over the next couple of weeks, and many will go through YXS as a part of their travel journey.

The Prince George Airport Authority is expecting to see an increase in traffic at YXS this coming weekend. Gordon Duke, President and CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) says that “tomorrow is the last day of school for local students before the winter break so we typically start to see families travelling to visit friends and relatives or to find warmer climates.”

The PGAA is asking passengers to plan ahead by following some travel tips:

  • Arrive at least 90 minutes before your scheduled departure and check the status of your flight online before driving to YXS.
  • Check the weather conditions in PG and at connecting airports and destinations, as poor conditions can significantly impact flight schedules. Check your airline’s website for the most up to date flight information.
  • If you’re travelling with gifts, leave them unwrapped as Screening Officers may have to inspect them.

Gordon Duke says that crews are ready to go whenever weather presents a challenge, and that there are a couple new pieces of snow-clearing equipment in their arsenal to help whenever snowy conditions are present.

Last December over 30,000 passengers flew in and out of the Prince George Airport, this December is looking to be another busy month, especially with a popular route to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, returning on Saturday.
