Mental health at risk during the holiday season

Dec 27, 2023 | 3:03 PM

PRINCE GEORGE—The holiday’s can be a time for good cheer but for people in crisis this time can make them feel isolated, stressed or triggered.

The past few years have been difficult for people due to global unrest, natural disasters, the pandemic and for people in B.C. the epidemic of toxic-drug poisonings.

These challenges can negatively affect someone’s mental health. This is why the Province is reminding people to reach out to support services if they or someone they know is in crisis.

The Province has expanded their mental health and substance-use care to meet people where they are at and connect with them to provide proper care. If you or someone you know is struggling this season and beyond, please know that care is available either online or in person.

Support services in Prince George include:

  • Foundry; who provides free counseling, and primary care for people 12-24 and their caregivers.
  • Crisis and Suicide outreach through the 988 helpline (call or text).
  • Two Doors Down; an Overdose Prevention Site that provides drug testing.
  • Northern Health and the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia
  • Canadian Mental Health Association; Prince George Branch
