Multiple people injured in bonfire

SMITHERS — Talk about a bonfire gone wrong.

RCMP say that shortly after midnight on January 1,police responded to a report of multiple burn victims in the 4500 Block of Henry Road in Smithers.

“Initial investigation indicated that 30-40 people were gathered around a bonfire when something was thrown into the fire resulting in an explosion. Several people were injured as a result,” says North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson.

“The injuries sustained have been described as minor to significant burns however none are believed to be life threatening. All required medical attention and were taken to hospital.
