Upcoming budget, policy review two main priorities for SD57 board chair

PRINCE GEORGE — The first school board meeting of 2024 will take place Tuesday and the new chair of the board of education, Craig Brennan has a number goals for this year, one is the upcoming budget and the other is policy review.

“There are policies that are on the books right now that would be well-served to be reviewed and to make sure that they actually are doing what they’re supposed to be doing. We still have policies on the books that are very old and then some that are very new and trying to get those those to work together in a seamless way is really important because the policy is what provides clarity for everybody in the system.” – Craig Brennan, SD57 Board Chair

Since being elected as a trustee, Brennan has seen first hand the differences between being in the classroom and outside the classroom.

“The biggest thing, is looking at the system as opposed to an individual school or in some case an individual classroom. So that wider lens, if you like, of how a school operates is now how a school district operates and closely tied to the policies is obviously the budget cycle. So those are probably the two biggest things that you’re learning now on a on an organizational scale as opposed to just a school sale, the scale. So that’s probably the biggest difference I noticed.” – Craig Brennan, SD57 Board Chair
