Teck B.C. Cup breaks records
PRINCE GEORGE—Caledonia Nordic hosted the Teck BC Cup this weekend, marking one of the largest turnouts to the skiing event in recent history. A total of 310 athletes travelled across the province including the debut of the Fort St. John Whiskey Jack Nordic Club.
“We are immensely proud of our Caledonia skiers who earned 25 medals,” proudly states Kevin Pettersen, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee. “including standout victories from Christopher Taylor, Austin Curran, Emily MacIntyre, Maise Hoehn, Nick Veeken, and Nikki Kassel. This event has not only been a showcase of young talent but also a testament to our club’s dedication to nurturing future champions.”
The weather presented challenges on Saturday. However, the event’s timing and start volunteers outshined the rain, managing non-stop heats every three minutes for almost seven hours. Sunday’s mass-start heats saw over 80 skiers at a time navigating the fast and exciting courses of the Nordic Centre, culminating in many close and exhilarating finishes.
“This weekend’s event was one of the largest BC Cup events ever at our venue. It’s remarkable to see such dedication from our volunteers,” remarks John Aalberg, Chief of Competitions. “Particularly in timing and starts, contributing significantly to the smooth running of the event. Their hard work underlines the spirit of our Nordic community.
