Spruce King Owen Goodbrand commits to NCAA team

PRINCE GEORGE—Prince George Spruce King Owen Goodbrand has announced his commitment to Bentley University to play in NCAA Division 1 hockey.

“I am very honoured and proud to announce my commitment to play Division 1 hockey and further my education at Bentley University,” said Goodbrand. “I would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who has played a role in my life and helped me achieve this goal. My family, billet families, coaches, teammates, and friends.”

Goodbrand started his BCHL Career playing for the Cowichan Valley Capitals. On January 6, 2023 “Goody” has been an important part of the Spruce Kings roster. In 59 games with Prince George, the 19 year-old centre recorded 11 goals and 32 points, with 25 of those points coming from this season.

“I would not be at this stage in my journey without the help and support of the Spruce Kings organization,” continues Goodbrand. “The coaches, management, and environment continuously make me look forward to improving each and every day. I am looking forward to the rest of the season and what the future holds!”

“We are very proud of Owen. He and his family are very deserving of this achievement,” said Head Coach Alex Evin. ” Since joining the Spruce Kings last season, we have seen Owen grow as a person and a player. We hope he keeps developing within our program until he joins Bentley in the Future.”

Goodbrand has been the Spruce King’s top-line centre all season and wears an alternate-captain patch on the ice.

“Owen is a great person, teammate and player,” said Mike Hawes, General Manager of the Prince George Spruce Kings. “He plays the game hard and the right way every time he steps on the ice. This achievement is very well deserved.”

Based in Waltham,. Massachusetts, the Bentley University Falcons competes in the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA). ate Bentley, Goodbrand will join Spruce Kings alumni Colton Cameron (Fr) and Nick Bochen (Sr).
