Justin Sunga is the first Timberwolf to receive U SPORTS Player of the Week

PRINCE GEORGE—The UNBC Timberwolves stole the show at the Canada West Playoffs with the entire team bringing out their A game. Second-year guard Justin Sunga shone above the stars as he was named U SPORTS Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The Burnaby product is the first UNBC men’s basketball player to ever receive the honour.

Last week in Winnipeg, Sunga averaged 13 points, nine assists and four-and-a-half rebounds during the Timberwolves four-game span which saw them defeat the UBC Thunderbirds, Manitoba Bisons, and the second ranked Calgary Dinos.

Sunga finished third amongst all Canada West players with an average of 5.3 assists-per-game.

Additionally, this week Sunga received the Canada West Player of the Week.

He shared the U SPORTS Player of the Week honour with nine additional student-athletes from across the country:

  • WHKY: Emma Wedgewood (York)
  • MHKY: Sam Huo (UBC)
  • WVB: Justine Kolody (Alberta)
  • MVB: Henry Rempel (Trinity Western)
  • WTF: Sienna MacDonald (Calgary)
  • MTF: Max Davies (Guelph)
  • WSWM: Regan Crowell (Dalhousie)
  • MSWM: Chris Weeks (Memorial)
