Cougars stage late comeback to beat Chiefs

PRINCE GEORGE – With their net empty, the hometown Prince George Cougars embarked on an incredible comeback victory in WHL action on Saturday (March 2).

Viliam Kmec and Zac Funk scored for the Cougars in the last two minutes of the third period to secure a tie with the Spokane Chiefs, and Riley Heidt tallied in overtime to give Prince George a 5-4 victory in front of about 4,000 fans at CN Centre.

Matteo Danis and Carlin Dezainde also scored for the Cats in support of goaltender Ty Young, who made 18 saves to pick up the victory between the pipes.

The Western Conference-leading Cougars (41-15-1-3) will host the Vancouver Giants (28-27-4-0) on Friday (March 8), with game time set for 7 p.m. at CN Centre.
