PRINCE GEORGE – The opening ceremony of the Para Biathlon World Championships will take place on Tuesday night, bringing together 11 countries and the community to celebrate.

During the opening ceremony, one lucky athlete gets to bear their country’s flag in a march through the Canada Games Plaza. However, for Canadian Mark Arendz, being chosen was more than luck.

“There are a lot of different factors I think the staff consider. It’s quite the honour to be selected from the team as the Flagbearer.”

Arendz will finally experience the games’ opening ceremony after participating in a closing ceremony.

Representing your country on home soil is a big honour, and Arendz is aware of this opportunity.

The athletes are in high spirits on the official first day of the games, and for Paralympian Mark Arendz, it’s a memorable return to Prince George after his last visit in 2019.

“ So it’s great to be back. You know, we kind of learned to expect a certain standard from the venue. It looked a little worrisome earlier on in the year. But now that the snow is here, the weather is great.”

The opening ceremony will occur on Tuesday at 6:30 pm in Canada Games Plaza. Everyone is welcome to attend, and fireworks will be at the event.
