Volunteer and dreams

Para Biathlon World Championships: Prince George’s community spirit shines through dedicated volunteers

PRINCE GEORGE – Professional athletes often spend years training to reach their goals. During this journey, they encounter numerous volunteers who help them achieve their dreams. Volunteers will make these dreams a reality at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club for the next few days.

There isn’t an inch of Calendonia Nordic Ski Club covered with people. Most of them, other than the athletes, are volunteers. Sign-up for volunteer positions was open for months before the para biathlon and para Nordic finals, and now that they’re here, there are over 300 volunteers ready to go, and the number is still growing.

Of the 300+ volunteers working at the games, many are Ukrainian Immigrants who have called Prince George home.

“Some of them had only been in Canada for a week. We get a little introduction. A lot of it was charades because they don’t all speak English. And now we have so many of them coming back and they are in so many different areas throughout the course here. “

Chair of Volunteers

Vonda says the atmosphere at the ski club makes coming back so easy for her and other volunteers. The time and effort everyone puts in is infectious.

Many of the athletes have vocalized their appreciation for the community’s support in Prince George, which allows them to continue to have opportunities like this.

Volunteers are crucial for almost any event, and the Para biathlon world championships aren’t different.
