PRINCE GEORGE – Bells were ringing and the audience was screaming in joy as Collin Cameron secured a gold medal for Team Canada during Saturday’s Men’s Sit Skiing Finals at the Caledonia Nordic World Cup Finals. The 35 year old skier also won in the same race back when Prince George hosted the World Cup Finals in 2019, and to be able to repeat on the same track was a truly special moment.

“I’m just so happy to be out here. It was a really hard season trying to bounce back from illness and not be able to race, so my game plan was just to come here and have really good focus for sprint day, I love sprint races. 2019 I won my first world championship in this race, feels really special to come back in and win the sprint race again,” he said.

To not only win, but win after overcoming illness throughout the season, was the cherry on top for Cameron.

“It’s hard to describe it. I think just being being back here with the team is probably the biggest win for sure. Racing, traveling with the team and racing with them this year, being in the stadium while Derek (Zaplotinsky) won his first ever race, that’s easily a highlight of Prince George for me for sure.”

While Cameron is no stranger to success all across the world over the course of his long career, winning in your own country always adds a special touch to an already phenomenal accomplishment.

“Well, you can’t beat it, especially in a place like this. There’s so many people here yelling, cheering for you, it’s incredible. Big shout out to everyone in Prince George, this was pretty amazing and just an unbelievable event once again.”

Cameron added we can expect him to continue competing on the world stage, as he hopes to bring even more medals for Team Canada in the upcoming World Cup Finals.
