VICTORIA — Hudson Thornton racked up four points, including two goals, and first-star honours for the Prince George Cougars in a 6-1 win over the Victoria Royals on Friday (March 15) in WHL action on Vancouver Island.

Terik Parascak (2), Oren Shtrom and Jett Lajoie also scored for the Cougars in support of goaltender Ty Young, who made 38 saves to pick up the win between the pipes.

Tyson Laventure tallied for the Royals (28-28-5-4), whose netminder, Braden Holt, stopped 34 shots in a losing effort.

The Cougars established a record with the victory, snaring a 15-game point streak to surpass the 14-game run they went on in 1997-1998.

They also tied the franchise record for wins in a single season, capturing their 45th of the campaign to tie the mark set in 2016-2017.

Prince George (45-15-1-3) remains atop Western Conference standings, with a one-point lead on the Portland Winterhawks (45-15-2-1), who have a game in hand on the Cougars.

Victoria and Prince George will square off in the rematch on Saturday (March 16) on Vancouver Island.
