Prince George not exempt from incoming short-term rental rules
PRINCE GEORGE — The City of Prince George’s request for an exemption from short-term rental rules soon to be in place in B.C. has been quashed.
Most communities in the province with a population of more than 10,000 will have a principal residence requirement as of May 1 that will limit short-term rentals — such as those provided on VRBO and Airbnb — to a primary home and one secondary suite.
Minister of Housing Ravi Kahlon said in a letter the city fell short of exemption requirements.
The city, which according to data from 2023 has a 2.8 per cent vacancy rate, is 0.2 per cent shy of the requirement number.
