PRINCE GEORGE – Lesley Kuhn’s exhibit, “Bednesti,” will be making its grand opening at Studio 2880 on April 3. With a focus on the nature and scenery of Prince George and area, Kuhn’s love of nature shines through the canvas, as she hopes to highlight just how beautiful our community can really be.

“I’ve traveled a fair bit and Prince George, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. We seem to underrate it here, and everywhere you look, it’s stunning. This morning’s sunrise was absolutely gorgeous and I think we need to appreciate it more,” she said.

The exhibits name takes after where Kuhn lives, as she lives at Bednesti Lake. Given that she’s surrounded by nature and gets out in nature as much as she can, Kuhn’s paintings are largely inspired by what she says on a day to day basis. While some community members may not notice the beauty of our community, as it can quickly become mundane if you see it every day, Kuhn hopes her exhibit can be a reminder of what our community has to offer.

“I try and bring that passion into my art. I try and remind people that the mundane is actually really beautiful, if we stop and look.”

While she’s been an artist her entire life, she has only been painting for the last seven years. She grew interested in painting specifically for a surprisingly practical reason.

“We were redecorating our bedroom and I wanted a painting and the ones that I liked in the size that I wanted were too expensive for my budget, so I decided to make one. I looked at some YouTube videos and I took some lessons and I just fell in love with art.”

The exhibit will officially open on April 3 at Studio 2880 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
