Prince George Cougars’ head coach and general manager Mark Lamb is feeling the buzz.

“It’s a lot of fun, that’s for sure,” Lamb said. “That’s what playoff hockey is all about. That’s what sports are all about.”

The Cougars are a hot ticket, with lineups forming this week at the box office ahead of the WHL club’s series against a yet-to-be determined Round 2 opponent.

Game 1 of the best-of-seven series is scheduled for Friday (April 12) at CN Centre, with puck-drop slated for 7 p.m.

“When you get that playoff buzz, it’s good for everybody to jump on board,” Lamb said. “For the businesses around and anybody from out of town to come into town and generate some money for everybody is always a real good thing.”

The Cougars finished atop Western Conference standings to claim the No. 1 seed and swept the No. 8 Spokane Chiefs in Round 1, finishing off the series on Wednesday (April 3) with a 3-2 victory down south at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.

Hometown Prince George played in front of 5,692 fans on March 29 in Game 1 and waxed Spokane 6-1, a night before besting the visiting Chiefs 7-4 at CN Centre, with 5,678 fans in attendance for Game 2.

The Cougars — winners of 21 of their last 23 games — will square off against the lowest remaining seed in the Western Conference in Round 2.
