BonVoyage Inn managing director says police presence on property result of mistaken identity: ‘It was a false alarm’

PRINCE GEORGE — Chris Matte, managing director of BonVoyage Inn in Prince George, said police presence on the hotel property on Friday (April 5) afternoon was not due to wrongdoing by staff or guests.

“It was a false alarm,” Matte said. “The police were looking for a person of interest. That person was apparently driving a white jeep. They mistook our guest’s white jeep for this person’s white jeep. He [the guest] is a night-shift worker. He was sleeping. They woke him up. After investigating, they figured out it wasn’t the person they were looking for.”

CKPG was on scene at the Inn (4222 Hwy 16 West) on Friday and took note of at least six officers with guns drawn, along with a police dog service team.

Matte said the property manager who was on duty on Friday has no complaints with actions taken by RCMP, which showed appropriate concern for those at the Inn.

“The ony downside was that they had bad information on the person they were going after, based off a report on the vehicle,” Matte said. “We’ve seen some comments on social media. None of our guests were involved in wrongdoing that brought them there. Police didn’t arrest anybody from our property.”

CKPG has contacted Prince George RCMP for comment.

“As soon as they realized the guy they pulled out of his room from the hotel wasn’t the guy they were looking for because of mistaken identity on the jeep, they basically went guns down and stopped being on guard, completed their investigation and left, being that it was a false alarm,” Matte said.
