PRINCE GEORGE – The Rocky Mountain Rangers held an open house and job fair today to meet with the community and show Prince George what they are all about.

“We exist to augment the regular force, and a great number of our Prince George soldiers have been deployed in recent days or will be deployed in the near future to the Middle East, to Europe. We’ve had folks go to England, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, on and on and on,” said Captain Eric Depenau.

With around 200 people showing up, Depenau says it was the best turnout he’s seen. He says it was great to see so many people show up, as he understands there may be some confusion or a general sense of mystery regarding why we have a military base in our community, so he was happy to have the opportunity to share what being a Ranger is like.

“I just don’t believe that folks are fully aware of the great opportunity to serve the country, to have gainful employment, educational opportunities, and just the family that being in this uniform helps bring, and we just want to share that message with more folks today,” Depenau said.

The Rocky Mountain Rangers have a wide range of responsibilities, as a Ranger could be expected to serve in diplomatic relations, combat/defense, training, transport, and many more. While the open house obviously had a huge focus on actually getting to meet and speak with the Rangers, another large aspect of it was giving people a bit of a taste of what it’s like to be a Ranger. Whether it was exercises, gearing up in tactical gear, learning more about equipment, or testing your sharpshooting skills on the simulation range, there was no shortage of activities to try during the open house.
