Spruce Kings quash talk of BCHL exit, report attendance boost despite losing season

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Spruce Kings said any sort of online chatter related to the club departing the B.C. Hockey League is not based in fact.
The club directed questions pertaining to the departure of the Merritt Centennials from the BCHL to the league office, but confirmed to CKPG Today via text the Spruce Kings are staying put in the junior A BCHL, which this season added five clubs from Alberta to its ranks.
Prince George was swept in four games by the Penticton Vees in Round 1 of the BCHL post-season after finishing last in Interior Conference standings in the regular season, with a record of 16-35-3-0.
The club posted about improved attendance on Twitter on Thursday (April 11): “Best fans in the BCHL. Thank you to all the Spruce Kings’ fans who came out and supported the team this season. Throughout the season, our average attendance was 1,217, up from 964 a year ago. Over 31,000 fans walked through the doors of Kopar Memorial Arena!”
