Intersection closure

Construction project to close intersection of 5th Ave and Burden St for 2 weeks

Apr 15, 2024 | 3:17 PM

PRINCE GEORGE — The intersection of 5th Avenue and Burden Street will be closed for construction work for two weeks starting April 29.

Traffic will be redirected down carney street for eastbound travellers and down Alward Street for westbound traffic.

The project will be to replace a valve on the 500mm (20”) transmission water main, repairing the sanitary sewer main and remove the concrete valve chamber located in the intersection. Valves are used to control and isolate the flow of water through pipes. This valve in the chamber on 5th Avenue is no longer operational and the City needs to reestablish control along this transmission water main. This valve is particularly important for control further down the transmission main and other water main branching off in the area.

This work may affect water pressure in the area while work is underway but there are no full water outages expected for any residents or businesses. Residents in the immediate area may notice dirty water which is normal as sediment is stirred up through the watermains during this type of maintenance work. If you experience this, please run cold water only through an unfiltered tap such as a bathtub or outside faucet until water clears up.
