PRINCE GEORGE – The Northern Medical Program has graduated its seventeenth set of aspiring doctors.

They follow hundreds of predecessors

One of the graduates is Alex Benny, whose journey has yet to finish.

“So next year I’ll be heading to Victoria. So I got into radiation oncology as my residency program. So I’ll be heading to Victoria for the first year to do some general medicine. And after that I’ll be doing four more years in Vancouver and then hopefully after that coming back and working at the cancer clinic here.”

Ali Blair is a graduate this year and plans to stay in the North.

“I’m going to be a family doctor and I’m going back to my hometown of Smithers, actually for training and a new program that UBC just got going called Rural Immersion, and that’s a two year program.”

Both say having a medical school in the North is partly what made the past four years easier.
