Cougars, Winterhawks to engage in Western Conference final

The No. 1-seed Prince George Cougars have begun preparations for the No. 2 seed Portland Winterhawks in what promises to be a tense Western Conference final showdown in the WHL.

The conference behemoths split the regular-season series, with each club winning two games.

The Cats outscored the Winterhawks 11-8, including a 4-0 victory in Portland on Dec. 3.

The teams last met in the playoffs in 2022, with the Winterhawks sweeping the Cougars in Round 1.

Prince George vanquished the Kelowna Rockets in a five-game, second-round series to reach the conference final, while Portland swept the Everett Silvertips.
