UNBC earns Canada West Feature of the Year Award

PRINCE GEORGE — Every year Canada West announces its 2024 SID Award recipients, celebrating excellence in sports information across the conference. This year UNBC has earned one of those awards featuring a former athlete, Brooke Molby.

It’s never easy when a loved one passes, especially to an overdose. Former UNBC soccer player Brooke Molby was a victim of it when her brother Ty passed away in 2019 from a lethal dose of fentanyl.

It took some time to heal but in August of 2023, Brook shared her and Ty’s story. Fast forward to today and the UNBC Timberwolves have been honoured with the 2023-2024 Feature of the Year, for Brooke Molby’s brave recounting of the tragic loss of her brother, Ty.

Molby’s story was the most-read piece released by the Athletic department in the past three years. After its release, UNBC received numerous contacts from individuals who shared similar struggles with drug addiction or had lost someone to opioid overdose. Brooke used this momentum to continue speaking publicly about the growing issue.

The honour is the fifth CW SID Award in five years for UNBC Athletics; the most awards of any school in conference history.
